Summary: A look at the ethanol industry involvement in the ASTM committees D02 (Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels, and Lubricants) and E48 (Bioenergy and Industry Chemicals from Biomass) and how and why you should get involved.
Kari Cook has been the Quality Manager at POET Biorefining in Alexandria, Indiana for the past 11 years. As Quality Manager for POET Biorefining, Kari is responsible for fermentation, water treatment, laboratory operations, product quality, and maintaining compliance for feed, food, and fuel sectors. At POET, she also acts as a Key Project Leader for ASTM, Commodity Operations, and Onboarding. She has been actively participating with ASTM since 2014. At ASTM, she is the secretary for sub-committee D02.A0.02: Oxygenated Fuels and Components. Kari holds leadership roles within Committee E48 on Bioenergy and Industrial Chemicals from Biomass: Chairman of the sub-committee for Terminology and Chairman for the newly developed sub-committee for Product Specifications under the E48 scope. In both D02 and E48 committees, Kari has held the responsibility of technical contact for multiple standards, thereby shepherding new and existing standards through the technical vetting, revision, and publication processes. Kari received her BS in Chemistry from the University of Saint Francis, Ft. Wayne Indiana and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Management and Leadership.
